Once the Washington Nationals secured the No. 1 overall pick of the 2010 MLB draft, everyone knew whom they would be picking. In reporting on Harper's lone season of JuCo ball, I got to know his father, Ron. And when it came time to profile Harper for The Washington Post Magazine ahead of his rookie season in pro ball, I wound up writing much of the story about Bryce's relationship with his father, who was (and I think remains) the most important influence in his life.
