This multi-part project, which I spearheaded with help from colleagues Emily Giambalvo, Michael Lee and Albert Samaha, began with anecdotal evidence: Almost none of my White, liberal friends were letting their sons play tackle football since the onset of the CTE crisis. Once we realized the data backed up the premise, showing deep political divides in the grass-roots football talent pool, we set out across the country to tell this important story.
